Hello, I'm fairly new to this tribe, but I was so excited to find it. Been slowly changing my lifestyle over last couple of years and became more invested since reading Voluntary Simplicity by Duane Elgin. I'm happy to have a place to come for ideas and support. I decided I was up for the challenge and look forward to the journey.

Re: new and enthusiastic member
Tue, November 28, 2006 - 8:37 AMI havent read the book,- but I think the title sums it up well, right?
so, tell me, what have you been able to simplify so far, what would you like to change within a couple of years..?
If you read my blog, my house move has been my biggest step forward(backward?) and I am very pleased with myself about that.
I have learned how to make many foods from scratch over the past 10-15 years or so, and I am pleased with that.. allthough this might not be strictly simplicity.. but for me this goes in the same direction, as it frees me from the food industry and allows me to buy many things straight from source, i.e. the farm etc.
Now growing my own veg etc takes this a step further.
have you heard of BuyNothingDay?- thats an interesting concept too. (24th or 25th Nov this year).
enjoy, jana. -

Tue, November 28, 2006 - 9:12 AMI guess the biggest thing is that I sold my car and am using the public bus service. Until recently I was living within walking distance to work. It was great while it lasted.
I recently moved in with some friends; it's temporary but I'm adjusting to living with others who don't recycle and regularly/often shop mail order. I definitely have an entire new way of looking at consumption in my life.
I love art and gain quite a bit from my own art making; I most recently started using more found ojects and re-use things as part of my assemblage art pieces and art journalling.
I do look forward to the day that my living situation changes in a way that makes growing my own foods more possible.
I let all but one of my magazine subscriptions run out, I was a bit of a magazine junkie.
I guess that's some of what I've been concentrating on; I'm invested in this for so many reasons and I expect that life will continue to change (mostly for the good) as time goes on and I adjust.

Tue, November 28, 2006 - 5:35 PMHi and welcome to the learning experience.
You may want to read the books or see the video for the affluenza series I mentioned in my thread about taking back your life. I believe it inspired the book you refer to. -
